Network Operation Center Technician
Job Description
Ligado Networks is looking for a highly motivated Network Operations Center Technician to be a part of our team located in Reston VA. The individual will perform Tier 1 Network Monitoring and Support of Ligado’s Next Generation Satellite Based Network.
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Perform daily routine alarm monitoring on Ligado’s satellite and terrestrial networks, system components and services.
- Identify network and service issues in a timely manner, perform initial alarm triage and apply the appropriate response.
- Initiate incident management and utilizing network management tools perform an initial high-level triage.
- Perform restoration if within defined guidelines or when necessary direct the restoration through escalation to the right internal support teams to handle. Support coordinated incident management efforts through the creation of incident tickets, bridge establishment, notifications, testing, etc. Follow incident ticket progression and ensure it is acted upon.
- Handle incoming customer emails and calls in a timely and professional manner, communicate directly with customers when necessary and collaborate with Tier 2 organizations. Be able to diagnose issues affecting software, hardware, and systems, create customer cases to document contact and or restoration.
- Establish and manage timely notifications internally through service alerts and externally through customer and maintenance notifications.
- Establish Change Requests (CRQs) for maintenance managed by the NOC.
- Perform daily shift change routines to ensure successful shift change. Produce shift and daily periodic reporting.
- As required collect and compile data and information during and after a network and or service event to support reporting and postmortem activities.
- Support NOC technician training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by NOC supervisor or NOC manager.
- This position is part of a 24x7x365 team and maybe required to do shift work (8-, 10- or 12-hour shifts) that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Be flexible providing support in shift schedule changes.

Education and Qualifications
- Minimum Associate Degree and/or Technical Diploma and/or a degree in engineering or computer science is a plus.
- Position requires at least 3-5 years of Network Operations experience of Satellite and/or Telecommunications networks, such as fixed or mobile satellite or wireless networks, terrestrial long-distance voice/data or IP networks.
- Strong work ethics in addition to the ability to multi-task effectively sometimes in high stress situations.
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to follow instructions, training, and supervision effectively.
- Desire and ability to learn new technologies, communication protocols and products.
- Excellent decision-making and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and teamwork skills.
- Candidates must meet eligibility requirements (i.e., US Citizen or US Green Card Holder) for ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulation) Programs.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of industry standard Tools such as ServiceNow, ScienceLogic, Grafana, PRTG/Cisco Works, SiteScan, etc.
- Knowledge of key Operations related to ITIL practices (i.e., Incident Management and Change Management), are an asset.
- Certified CCENT/CCNA is an asset.
- Basic/advanced knowledge of Linux, UNIX, XML, HTML, MS Access.
- Databases tools: MS Access, MySQL, Oracle & Origin.
- Experience in Windows/Linux operating environment with MS Office Suite experience to include Access.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders, satellite dishes; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Office environment with shared space in the Network Operations Control center. Noise level is low to medium. The candidate must be able to work a flexible shift schedule of early morning, afternoon evenings, midnight and weekends. Position requires sitting for long periods of time with continuous network focus. Must be available for a 24/7 rotating and on call schedule.
