Manager, Network Infrastructure

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Infrastructure, the Network Infrastructure Manager will be responsible for everything from design to completion, for the coordination, development, deployment, test and integration of infrastructure for Ligado Networks.

This effort will include coordinating or supporting Network operational activities related to these infrastructure projects. The main responsibility of this position is to manage third party vendors in detail to complete the infrastructure upgrades planned, as scheduled and within budget targets. This position is also responsible for providing the necessary and appropriate internal and external reports meeting company requirements.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervise ongoing Network Infrastructure upgrades at the Reston Network Operations Center. Design, Build out, of the NOC Control Room Upgrade and the Reston office telepresence installation at the new location in Herndon.
  • Manage the planning and supervision of upcoming Network Infrastructure new builds and upgrades at sites in North America, as the need arises.
  • Provide third party vendor management in scheduling resources and driving vendor performance cost effectively
    • HVAC, UPS / Generator, electrical, fire systems, security and maintenance contracts and schedules.
  • Create yearly budgets and Project Cost estimating, working with various Operations and Engineering groups to provide financials.
  • Institute a continuous process improvement and process re-engineering mechanism.
  • Modify and/or implement processes and procedures to align with new infrastructure/network support.
  • Out-of-town travel is expected to be less than 10%

Education and Qualifications:

  • Requires a College Degree, BS in Engineering, civil preferred.
  • Requires at least 10 years’ operational experience in the telecommunications sector and the interaction of the site infrastructure to those telecom operations
  • Requires at least 10 years’ experience and extensive knowledge in infrastructure systems, including Main and Back-Up Power Systems, HVAC, fire protection, security and datacom wiring and equipment installation and upgrades.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent presentation and written communications skills
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships at multiple levels of the company
  • Ability to work effectively with Operations, Engineering, and Technology teams at the company
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage use of outside vendors and technology advisers
  • A diligent work ethic accompanied by an ever-positive, get-it-done attitude
  • Sound judgment and flexibility to prioritize and handle multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines with little to no direction
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and manage to completion, proactively anticipate next steps and determine alternative improved means to complete assignment
  • Team player with a professional and personable demeanor
  • Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of varied activities

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledgeable in using CAD / drawing programs
  • Office 365 applications
  • Knowledge of standard industry Tools such as ServiceNow, ScienceLogic, PRTG/Cisco Works, SiteScan, etc.
  • Knowledge of key Operations related to ITIL practices (i.e., Incident Management and Change Management is an asset)
  • Knowledge of scheduling applications for project management

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders, satellite dishes; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Work from home or in the Office environment with shared space in the Network Operations Control center. Noise level is low to medium.
