Reston, VA. December 8, 2025 – Ligado Networks issued the following statement today:
“We filed an application today with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to modify our existing L-Band satellite license to add an MSS system (“SkyTerra Next”) that will be hosted on AST SpaceMobile’s satellite constellation in low Earth orbit (LEO). Granting this application will enable space-based mobile broadband services across the United States and complement our already-licensed, geostationary SkyTerra MSS system in North America.”
“As outlined in the Modification Application, Ligado and AST SpaceMobile are collaborating to enable space-based mobile broadband services in the L-Band for consumer, business, and government users in the United States. This mobile broadband capability will foster a competitive market for D2D and ensure the best and most intensive use of our MSS L-Band spectrum.”
“Today’s FCC filing also represents an opportunity to extend mobile broadband services across communities, bridging the digital divide and supporting rural economic development.”
