Ligado Networks Statement on Septentrio’s Support in FCC Filing

A leading designer and manufacturer of GPS receivers and equipment filed comments to the FCC supporting Ligado’s proceeding.

RESTON, Va., October 9, 2018 – Ligado Networks issued the following statement in response to a letter sent by Septentrio, a designer and manufacturer of GPS receivers and equipment, to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

“For nearly a decade since the introduction of the GPS-enabled smartphone, it’s been clear that technology can be designed to enable LTE and GPS to coexist. Septentrio’s filing and their technology shows that the public clearly benefits when they do coexist because our country is armed with better, more resilient GPS that protects us from threats such as spoofing and jamming. And so while some contend policymakers have a choice between a robust GPS and advanced 5G services, a broad group of stakeholders have weighed in to say the country must have both – access to critical mid-band spectrum and resilient GPS devices. That conclusion has been reached by diverse voices including helicopter and satellite operators, spectrum experts, wireless associations, consumer groups and leading GPS manufacturers. Moving this forward is a win-win for the country and integral to the U.S. maintaining its leadership in wireless. We can’t wait to get started.”
