The Virginia Democrat was on a hot hillside in his home state town of Dillwyn on Wednesday to demo an unmanned aircraft system capable of inspecting power lines up to 20 kilometers away. The drone he showcased uses the terrestrial networks of Reston, Va.-based Ligado (née LightSquared). Warner seized on the chance to pitch the commonwealth as particularly drone-friendly. Told that the UAV on hand — a Kevlar number with a nine-foot-wingspan that, according to Nancy, looked like a tiny gray airplane — was manufactured in California by the firm AeroVironment, Warner said, adding “I’m going to bring the governor [Terry McAuliffe] to come talk to you about relocation.”
