The Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) has urged the FCC to open a public proceeding on Ligado Networks, formerly known as New LightSquared, regarding its licence modifications and spectrum reallocation request. The CCA encouraged the FCC to grant the request to more deeply encourage the FCC and industry stakeholders through the notice-and-comment process. It recommends that the regulator “unleash 40 MHz of undeveloped spectrum.”
The association’s CEO, Steven K Berry writes, “Ligado’s desire to acquire the 1675-1680 MHz band, which NTIA already identified as part of its repurposing plan, will bolster possible uses of their current spectrum holdings, and ultimately will benefit consumers. Additionally, due to its current proximity to the band and its current band plan, Ligado is in the best position to operate in the 1675-1680 MHz space in coordination with federal users.”
